A great resource for all especially those with learning difficulties.

I found this link this morning and thought what a fantastic idea.

I thought these would be particularly useful if you have a child with learning disabilities such as Autism, as visual aids are incredibly important.  Maybe you don’t home school your child but helping them get their homework or books organised is still needed and these card would be great for that, even using this to plan out their school timetable for they day showing them exactly what will happen.

I am planning on using these for my younger children, I am teaching them to read, and what better way to help them get familiar with certain words then making them part of their everyday routine.  These cards can also help them become more responsible, if they know whats coming next they can collect their own books and resources for each lesson!!!!

They seem very simple to make, ideally you need a laminator, i think if you home school one of these is essential you can pick them up very cheaply.

This laminator from Asda costs just £8.00 The laminating pouches are £2.00 for 25 so not a bad price at all.

In the same isle you will also find these fantastic Sellotape squares and circles costing around £2.00 each we have found them to be invaluable in our home schooling class great for these task cards and also for creating weather and rewards charts etc

Stay awake and keep your senses……..

(1 Thessalonians 5:6) . . .So, then, let us not sleep on as the rest do, but let us stay awake and keep our senses. . .

Today’s text was taken from The Watchtower “Christian families- stay awake”

This article certainly gave me some food for thought, it is amazing how many things we can let slip daily, how many mistakes we make when trying to fight our way through this world.  Satan is truly out to destroy any relationship we might have with god and families today come under a huge amount of pressure.

So how do we stay awake and keep our sense? The article makes several points that will help us stay strong in this failing system of things.

Husbands – Imitate Jesus.

  • (1 Timothy 5:8) . . .Certainly if anyone does not provide for those who are his own, and especially for those who are members of his household, he has disowned the faith and is worse than a person without faith. . . A husband must provide for his families physical needs yet their spiritual needs are far more importance.

(Proverbs 24:3, 4) . . .By wisdom a household will be built up, and by discernment it will prove firmly established.  And by knowledge will the interior rooms be filled with all precious and pleasant things of value.

  • The way a man treats his wife is of great importance in fact poor treatment of a wife will hinder a man’s prayers to god.  A christian husband will love his wife as his own flesh and examine Jesus example when dealing with his disciples.

(Ephesians 5:25) . . .Husbands, continue loving YOUR wives, just as the Christ also loved the congregation and delivered up himself for . . .

  • A husband will train his children by firmly upholding bible principles, and administering discipline in a loving, patient and fair manner.

Wives – Build up your households

As wives we have a special position, not as a slave but as a helper a compliment to our husbands, this is certainly demeaning in any way and showing subjection to our husbands is vital in order to help our families stay afloat in this wicked system.  The wife plays a powerful role within her family and she is wise not to abuse that role.

  • (Ephesians 5:22, 23) . . .Let wives be in subjection to their husbands as to the Lord,  because a husband is head of his wife as the Christ also is head of the congregation. . .

  • (Proverbs 14:1) 14 The truly wise woman has built up her house, but the foolish one tears it down with her own hands. A sensible woman works hard to praise her husband always finding a way to build him up and not speaking badly of him in public, her aim is to increase the respect of her family name.
  • (Proverbs 1:8) 8 Listen, my son, to the discipline of your father, and do not forsake the law of your mother. . .  A wife will help in the Family Worship program supporting her husband in the raising and the disciplining of the children.  She will not undermine her husband in front of the children and show her children that she has the utmost respect for her husband.

  • Manifest a quiet and mild spirit.

Follow the example of women such as Sarah, Ruth, Abigail and Jesus mother Mary.

These are just a few of the points relating to this mornings days text, however if we are not part of a family we can still remember that as men in the congregation the way we treat women and children has a bearing on our relationship with Jehovah and as women we should always aim to show submission to the men taking the lead not promoting the spirit of independence.

Make the most of our time in Jehovah’s service we must ensure that we are reguarly:

  • Praying
  • Reading the bible
  • Meditating on the bible
  • Study the bible and prepare for meetings
  • Attend the meetings
  • Participate in the meetings
  • Preach Jehovah’s word informally and door to door

Who do our children associate with??? Who do we???

Do you consider television as association?

I was married at sixteen and just seventeen when I was pregnant with my oldest son, as a young wife and mother there were many things that never occurred to me as the wisdom and experience of life simply was not there.  It was after a wonderful sermon that i discovered that the television in our homes is actually a form of ASSOCIATION, not just for our children but for ourselves.  As with any child raised in a god fearing house the following scripture ran through my head :

(1 Corinthians 15:32-34) . . .”  Do not be misled. Bad associations spoil useful habits.  Wake up to soberness in a righteous way and do not practice sin, for some are without knowledge of God. I am speaking to move YOU to shame.

Yes our association whether adult or child can seriously affect the progress we are making as spiritual individuals.

The following is a snippet from “The Watchtower”

*** w73 2/1 p. 73 par. 14 Are You Living for What You Can Get Out of Life Now? ***

Young people have a great temptation to associate with worldly youths of their own age. They are often pressured into joining sports teams, clubs and groups. There is a desire to be accepted and often, to be accepted, one must show that one will do daring and even unscriptural things. It is easy to succumb to worldly fads in grooming and dress, or to be tempted into picking up a paperback novel from a bookstand with an eye-catching cover that appeals to fleshly desires. There is also the lure of television or movies that feature violence, highlight sadism or glorify sex. There are authors, too, of books on philosophy, higher criticism, and so forth, with whom we do not wish to associate. If we read these books, it is tantamount to sitting down before them and letting them fill our minds with their ideas on life

That last line is hard hitting by watching (and reading etc) information that goes against bible principles we might as well be sitting at the same table as these ones and joining in.

This is an area I seriously  need to work on, although I am great with what the children watch and am very strict wanting to protect their little minds, never allowing them to watch programs unless I know the content or have viewed the program myself – monitoring their book reading etc, how often I think I have failed to do the same my self…. the things I will laugh at or gasp at on the TV and keep watching, yet if these things were happening in my living room I would not stand for it, so why do I not see that that box with a sheet of glass in it does not protect me anymore than if it were happening in my own home.

After reading the words of Job have resolved my heart to be firmer and not just lt things pass in front of my eyes because its on the TV screen :

(Job 31:1)  “A covenant I have concluded with my eyes.. . .

Yes Job made a covenant with his eyes not to expose them to anything that could lead him to think or act on any sinful matters, and he proved a true and faithful man to god being blessed for his actions.

(Matthew 5:29) . . .If, now, that right eye of yours is making you stumble, tear it out and throw it away from you. For it is more beneficial to you for one of your members to be lost to you than for your whole body to be pitched into Ge·hen′na.

The importance of humility.

We did a wonderful study yesterday on the importance of humility in God’s eyes.  In a world where people seek position and prominence for their names. As true servants of god, Jesus told us that we should conduct ourselves as a lesser one, for only in this way can we become truly great in god’s eyes.

*** Bible Citations ***
(Luke 9:46-48) Then a reasoning entered among them as to who would be the greatest of them. 47 Jesus, knowing the reasoning of their hearts, took a young child, set it beside him 48 and said to them: “Whoever receives this young child on the basis of my name receives me [too], and whoever receives me receives him [also] that sent me forth. For he that conducts himself as a lesser one among all of YOU is the one that is great.”

The Greek word translated “lesser one” means someone who is modest, humble, lowly etc…..

Not taking this to the extreme as some do, having no self esteem of confidence feeling that nothing they do is right, we must develop the correct attitude as Jesus encouraged all his disciples.

When we think of the power Jesus had when he came to earth and what he cold have accomplished  had he decided to strike out on his own, he is a perfect example of one who conducted himself as lesser one.

In the first instance he was willing to come to earth as a lowly human quite a step down from sitting at God’s right hand in a powerful spirit body.

When on earth he never took praise or glory for himself always remembering that the power he had been given was a blessing from his father and to be used only for the purpose of bringing praise to god’s name.

(Luke 22:42) 42 saying: “Father, if you wish, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, let, not my will, but yours take place.”

(John 5:19) 19 Therefore, in answer, Jesus went on to say to them: “Most truly I say to YOU, The Son cannot do a single thing of his own initiative, but only what he beholds the Father doing. For whatever things that One does, these things the Son also does in like manner.

How can we learn from this example and show humility in our day to day lives.  The first area is within our homes.  We require obedience from our children as we know what we teach them is for their own benefit.  In like manner we need to remember that our father is God in heaven, we are his children and need to apply the council from his written word the bible in order to be good parents.

(Romans 14:19) So, then, let us pursue the things making for peace and the things that are upbuilding to one another.

God tells us through the apostle Paul to pursue peace, when we think of the word pursue we think of action, yes we must actively try to be peaceful people this starts within our home and with our children and marriage partner.  Do we resort to shouting and screaming and insulting when things are not done our way or our children fail to listen or do we remember that we all make mistakes and that god humbles himself daily to teach us in a loving manner.

When our children see our behavior they learn, and yes it takes a lot longer to learn the good behavior as sin is so deeply ingrained in us our tendencies are bad, but God will bless our efforts, and through our own example of humility our children will learn to be humble.

(Psalm 131:1-3) O Jehovah, my heart has not been haughty, Nor have my eyes been lofty; Nor have I walked in things too great, Nor in things too wonderful for me.

You want progress not perfection!!

One of the blogs I enjoy reading is Courtney’s women living well, although our religious beliefs are different our foundation for using the bible to teach our children is the same.  I often speak to my children about the scripture at Ephesians:

(Ephesians 6:1-3) 6 Children, be obedient to YOUR parents in union with [the] Lord, for this is righteous: 2) “Honor your father and [your] mother”; which is the first command with a promise: 3) “That it may go well with you and you may endure a long time on the earth. . .

As part of our daily home schooling schedule at about 9:15 am we sit down for morning worship which consists of studying a different piece of bible literature that is relevant to our family needs and teaches us how to serve god better, the following link has a display of some of the books we use during morning morning , and although not shown the bible is our main tool.

We take just half an hour each morning to do this and then at 9:45 we do what I call Character study, we pick a theme such as obedience, kindness etc and run that theme through the week we will look at the follwoing things

Ex: Monday :       What is Obedience/what does it mean to be obedient

Tuesday:      Bible examples of Obedient and disobedient individuals – discuss outcomes

Wednesday:  Choose one character who showed outstanding obedience and in our character study books we will write down examples of that persons obedience and scriptures highlighting how god felt about that individual , how obedience protected them.

The following link takes you to free bible resources, the bible cards we print out and stick to the top of the page and then write information about the character underneath, there are also other lessons to cut out and colour in.

Bible character cards  We looked at King David overall he was an outstanding example of obedience but also demonstrates how when we stray from that path things can go so badly.

On Thursday we look do an over view of what we have learnt and think about ways we can demonstrate obedience in our daily lives, the importance of it, it is a good time to find out what the children really feel about developing these qualities and if they think they are important.

On Fridays: its role play time, we will do small plays fro example I will be the older person trying to offer the younger a cigarette or encourage them to do something bad and each child has the opportunity to think and act out what they could and would do.  There are so many great ways this can be done and work and the kids love it.

Leading back to the post from Courtney, my youngest son is 7 and no matter what we seem to do, he is very rebellious and it almost seems is looking for trouble, it has been playing on my mind greatly as I do see my children’s behavior an example of how they are being trained.  The video blog from Courtney helped me think about what a perfect parent god was and yet Adam and Eve still made the decision to disobey and to think about the progress we have made with our little ones.  I definitely need to discuss this with God more my prayers in this area have been lacking but I am grateful for the other wonderful moms out there who so kindly share their knowledge and experience with us.

<a href="https://organisedmommy.files.wordpress.com/2013/01/yelling-at-a-bud.jpg”>yelling-at-a-bud

I found this post very interesting.  I have always heard people say that change is hard, and that this world is moving faster than ever yet we have to go with the flow, move with the time etc

I actually think it’s considerably harder to stand still and say “no this is who I am” than just accept the changes this world is throwing at us and move forward.

It is true that when God created women he wanted them to be different he gave them very different assets to highlight that fact yet more and more in this world women strive to be more than just equal to men but better then them, stronger, faster and so many of the men in this world are becoming like women.

The bible tell us at 1 John 5:9 We know we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one.   Yes the ruler of this world is Satan, and the attitudes we see are ones that he promotes.  Therefore if we are to be lovers of god we must take comfort in the words spoken at     (John 15:17-21) . . .These things I command YOU, that YOU love one another. 18) If the world hates YOU, YOU know that it has hated me before it hated YOU. 19 If YOU were part of the world, the world would be fond of what is its own. Now because YOU are no part of the world, but I have chosen YOU out of the world, on this account the world hates YOU. 20) Bear in mind the word I said to YOU, A slave is not greater than his master. If they have persecuted me, they will persecute YOU also; if they have observed my word, they will observe YOURS also. 21) But they will do all these things against YOU on account of my name, because they do not know him that sent me. . .

So going back to my earlier thoughts on the blog read, if a woman wants to be modest and gentle and feels that this is her role and that the a man and woman have their roles in the world set out by god and these are to be followed she may be hated or ridiculed for being backward or simple by many but in God’s eyes she is a precious jewel one to be treasured and valued most highly by her husband and family.

Just as our dear lord Jesus was persecuted for doing what was right so are we today.

Lets make it our goals as wives to not allow the worlds attitudes to determine how we act and present ourselves but let it be god’s word that fashions our personalities.

I may start wearing skirts a little more often myself now…………….

Cost effective Art & craft

My kids love Art and Craft lessons, they go through art materials so fast though it can be difficult at times to keep the costs low. I took a look around the Hobby Craft sale although I love their stuff I often find it can be a bit on the expensive side but the sale was fantastic. So thought I would share some of purchases with you including art lessons ideas and maybe you will be able to pick up a few deals of your own. Please feel free to comment and share your own Art & craft ideas I would love to hear them.

My kids loved these visors and at only 49P each they were a great deal, they came in all sorts of colours and some were even glittered, i purchased the foam shapes at 99p for a pack and they have sticky backs so the kids can just peel and stick saving mess and glue. Ok I know visors are a summer thing but my son has been wearing his around the house he is very proud of his work.

foil picture maker 1.49

These foil pictures were down to £1.49 each, and my kids just love them, I normally pay around £3.00 for one of these but they keep the kids entertained for hours, so picking them up for such a great price was fantastic and there was a huge variety of pictures. Some of the ones the kids have done have looked amazing and I have picked up cheap frames for them to hang in the classroom.
